How this guide writes and compares

Published by Big Impact BooksLast updated: November 2026

Speak Your Book forms its recommendations by judging every option on the same stated criteria, using facts from each provider's own pages and credited public sources.

Big Impact Books publishes this site and wrote this methodology. Because Big Impact Books offers the guided-interview process described here, every comparison names it as the publisher and explains why each entry sits where it does.

How are recommendations on this site formed?

We start from one reader: a busy professional who prefers speaking over writing and wants a book that builds authority. Each option is then judged on the same criteria, and its position follows from how well it meets them for that reader, not from who publishes the site.

What criteria do we use?

  1. Weekly time required from the author.
  2. Who turns the author's ideas into chapters.
  3. Whether publishing is included.
  4. Whether promotion, such as podcast placements and media coverage, is included.
  5. Whether pricing is published.

Where an answer depends on the individual provider, tables say “varies” rather than guess.

Where do the facts come from?

What we do not do

  • We do not invent ratings, reviews, testimonials, or prices.
  • We do not claim independent testing or an audit; none was performed.
  • We do not accept payment from other providers for placement, and there are no affiliate links.
  • We do not describe competitors' weaknesses or complaints.

How often is this site updated?

Pages are reviewed when facts change, and each page shows its last updated date near the top. This methodology was last updated in November 2026. See it applied in the book publishing services comparison.

Common questions

Is it legal to have AI write a book for you?

In many places it is legal to publish a book drafted with AI tools, but the U.S. Copyright Office has said purely AI-generated material is not protected by copyright, and some publishing platforms ask authors to disclose AI use. Rules vary by country, so confirm with a publishing attorney. In a guided-interview process, the substance of the book comes from your own spoken expertise.

Can you tell if a book is written by AI?

Not reliably. Detection tools exist, but they can flag human writing as AI and miss AI writing, so a tool's verdict is not proof. Readers more often notice generic phrasing, repeated structures, and a lack of specific stories. Books built from your own interviews tend to be full of the specific client stories and examples that generic text lacks.

What software do most authors use to write books?

Many authors draft in Microsoft Word or Google Docs, and long-form writers often use dedicated tools such as Scrivener. Authors who prefer speaking add dictation software; Wirecutter reports dedicated dictation software recognizes 97% of words on average with no training required. Software captures words, but it does not ask questions, structure chapters, or edit for you.

Is a guided interview better than dictation software?

For busy professionals who want a finished, published book, usually yes; for a disciplined writer on a tight budget, dictation can be enough. Dictation captures words accurately, with Wirecutter reporting 97% recognition on average, but you still organize, rewrite, and edit. A guided interview adds planned questions, structure, and a team that turns talk into chapters.

How much does a book writing interview service cost?

Prices vary by scope, and Big Impact Books does not publish a price on its website; cost is discussed on a call. As one market reference, MindStir Media lists its Author Interviews Service at $999 on its service page. Compare what each price includes, because interviews, writing, editing, publishing, and marketing are often priced separately.
